This year's Maragoli festival will be remembered for political reasons. The event is an annual cultural festival that happens on every 26th December.
It is held at Mbale town, Vihiga county. Parts of the Lunya community as the Maragoli, Tiriki, Bunyore, Idakho and Kisa sub-tribes of the attend the festival.
Previously it has been where the Luhya leaders stage their supremacy battles. Last year, CS Eugine Wamalwa was heckled and nearly ejected from the event by rowdy youth. He was rescued by Musalia Mudavadi.
This year, the politics that played were a manifestation of hard realities. The showdown was expected between CS Achesa and Senator Malala.
On the same note, Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi of ANC were in attendance. The two have been struggling with achieving the desired unity for the voting block.
The Luhya unity pact is feared to be angled towards throwing weight behind Ruto. In a new twist, a top Jubilee party official signaled a breakaway come 2022.
David Murathe, during the festival stated that DP Ruto should retire alongside President Uhuru in 2022.
