Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i's latest 'promotion' in the Jubilee government has brought about mixed reactions among Kisii local politicians and residents.
Matiang'i new role will be heading the National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee where he will supervise the execution of government programs and projects.
George Bibao, Jubilee party chairman in Bomachoge Borabu said Matiang'i deserved the promotion.
"Matiang'i is fit for the top job. We are behind him and what is remaining is him vying for Presidency in 2022," he noted.
Mr. Bibao challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to consider endorsing the hard-working cabinet secretary for the country's top seat in 2022.
Stephen Kirera, a trader in Kisii town welcomed Matiang'i's promotion saying the Head of State is fully pleased with his good work.
"Matiang'i's promotion means the Gusii community is being recognized by the Jubilee government. We expect more leaders from Kisii region to be absorbed in government," said Kirera.
Emily Gesare, a fruits vendor urged Matiang'i to ignore critics and work towards the implementation of the President's Big 4 Agenda.
"Matiang'i's promotion means he will put more efforts to ensure Kenyans countrywide are accessing development," she noted.
