Instead, the Bungoma senator says, he will go for a Luhya candidate since they have 'backed other communities for many years'.

"We can have two regions ruling this nation as if we don't have better people from other areas. I am in talks with Musalia Mudavadi and if it's him, I will offer support, if it's me, kindly back me," he said, adding that he is even ready to back Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong'.

Last week, local media reported that he had backed Ruto, who toured Mt. Elgon in Bungoma.

And Mr. Wetangula, who was speaking in Busia, added that Mr. Raila Odinga should consider backing him in 2022 as a payback for the support he'd given him.

“We cannot be supporting other regions for president as if we from Western do not have people who can lead the country. Raila should return the favour I accorded him in 2013 and 2017,” said Wetang’ula.

At the Mt. Elgon event, Ruto said he's ready to form a partnership with Wetangula in future political realignments.
