Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has said President Uhuru Kenyatta has not ignored the Gusii community in his development plan.
Matiang'i, while speaking at Kisii school on Wednesday during a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta, his Deputy William Ruto, NASA leader Raila Odinga and opinion leaders drawn from Kisii and Nyamira counties, said his promotion is a clear indication that Mr Kenyatta recognizes the Gusii community.
"I want to thank you Mr President before the people of Gusii for promoting me. I ready to perform in my new position. I want to tell the people of Gusii region that you have not forgotten us," he said.
Matiang'i insisted that he will not joke in his new role.
He vowed to ensure development is realized across all corners of this country.
"I'm appealing to leaders to ensure public funds are used appropriately to fund various development projects. Anyone who will be caught misusing public funds will face the law alone," he stated.
Matiang'i said the fruits of the handshake are visible since President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga are walking together preaching peace and unity.
