In his ruling, Makueni senior principal magistrate James Mwaniki said Nzomo had a criminal record and the sentence was enough to teach him a lesson.

Nzomo was arrested at Nguuni in Kibwezi West Constituency after a video showing him assaulting the wife surfaced online.

This prompted the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji to order the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to ensure the suspect was arrested, arraigned in court and charged over the same.

Police are in pursuit of those who took the video and circulated it online.

They, however, have not been identified.

Here are some of the reactions following the case's ruling.
