It is normal in African culture that when a guest visits homestead, they are given time to share experiences and perhaps interact at the personal level.

When news about Barack Obama's visit were first made public in May, thousands of Kenyans invaded social media where they expressed their joy.

But the trip to his father's remote village in Kogelo on Monday fell short of expectations with hundreds of supporters taking organisers head-on in various platforms among them social media.

And supporters who traveled from hundreds of kilometers in Nyamira are crying foul over what they term as 'discriminatory attitude' by the organisers, with Obama's sister, Auma Obama indicted over the same.

"Obama is a global leader and not just a family man. When he visits, we expected organisers to make the event public. Instead, we left heartbroken," said Milcah Mokaya, who traveled to Kogelo.

Another supporter, John Mokaya added: "It is sad that we were not allowed to get the lifetime opportunity of even seeing him from a distance despite travelling all the way to Siaya."

While at Mama Sarah Obama's compound, recalls Wollace Ondere, organisers changed route thus prompting Obama to use an alternative route to their surprise.

"We were expecting to see him when he rolled out of Sarah's house only for him to use a different exit," he said, blaming organisers.

Local leaders have however sent a positive gesture, despite also being denied an opportunity to meet Obama, saying that his trip buoyed businesses.
