According to the facility's chief executive officer Dr. Enock Ondari, out of 6 beds at the ICU, 4 are manned by nurses.

He said the facility is serving several patients from the South Nyanza region with only 26 nurses.

"This hospital requires 36 nurses but, we currently have only 24 nurses serving the large population of people thronging to the facility to receive medical attention," he said.

Ondari has appealed to the county government of Kisii to consider hiring more nurses to boost service delivery at the hospital.

"Patients being taken to the ICU are not handled properly due to lack of enough nurses. Governor Ongwae should move with speed and hire more staff for the sake of improving service delivery at the facility," said Ondari.

He said at times they are forced to refer other patients to Kisumu, Moi Teaching and referral hospital and Kenyatta National Hospital because of the shortage of nurses.

"There is no private hospital with ICU in Kisii and Nyamira Counties. This forces us to refer patients to other public facilities outside the county," he added.
