Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has shared his personal mobile number urging Nairobi women to personally call him if they are charged maternity fees at any county public hospital.

Speaking at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital on Thursday,  Sonko said that maternity services  are fee and anyone who will go to county public health centers be asked money should personally call him.

He said that he has been receiving complaints f that some hospitals are demanding money from pregnant women who visit public health facilities.

He said that Jubilee government abolished maternity fees and anyone demanding for the same will be immediately sacked.

The governor stated that many city women are shying from visiting hospitals for maternity services for fear of being asked to pay.

“Maternity services are free and I ask women to call me on this number 0722886600 if they are ever asked to pay,” he said on Thursday at the Pumwani Hospital.

Sonko said that he will not hesitate to sack top health officials in the county who are derailing his health development agenda.

On Tuesday, Sonko suspended county Health Minister Hitan Majvdia and county health director Thomas Ogaro over the poor state of health facilities and lack of medicine.

The governor asked the two top officials alongside other senior health employees to write a report on why there are no medicines in public hospitals and health facilities.
