Baringo senator Gideon Moi has of late been missing in action, three years to the general elections.
Although the younger Moi has not officially declared his 2022 presidential bid, speculations are rife that Gideon Moi will be battling it out with his political sibling deputy president William Ruto and other politicians who have interests in succeeding President Kenyatta.
In my opinion, Gideon Moi’s presidential bid will be unsuccessful and chances are high that Gideon who is also the party leader for KANU will be thrashed by the veteran politicians including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Raila might also present himself as a presidential candidate in the coming general elections.
Gideon Moi is of no match to William Ruto and Raila Odinga who are the frontrunners in the race.
There is no doubt that Senator Moi is enjoying the maximum support of Baringo residents who are also of the opinion that their senator should go for the presidential seat.
Since he is serving for his second term as a senator, constitutional restrictions will not allow him to defend his seat.
Going for the presidential seat will be a poor decision and will definitely mark the end of his career.
Instead, Gideon Moi should vie for the Baringo gubernatorial seat in 2022. He will easily clinch the seat considering his popularity and that Baringo is a stronghold region of his KANU party.
Winning the gubernatorial seat in 2022 will ensure that the Senator remains politically relevant after the elections and he will later pursue his presidential ambitions.
