Nearly five months after bouncing back with a top government job, former Karachuonyo MP James Rege has maintained an uncharacteristically low political profile that may no doubt leave his opponents confused, and guessing what next for him.
Rege who represented Karachuonyo constituency for two consecutive terms failed to defend his seat in 2017, having opted out of the race amid a hostile reception by the locals, following his decision to ditch ODM leader Raila Odinga's camp for President Uhuru Kenyatta's team.
After becoming the face of Jubilee Party in the ODM dominated Nyanza region, the US-trained engineer made a comeback after the President appointed him as the head of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO).
However, since his appointment, Rege who served as a Permanent Secretary during President Mwai Kibaki's first term in office, has disappeared from the public eye, in what many say could be a political strategy heading into the 2022 political contest, where he may be keen to make a swift return into politics.
Could he have taken a break off politics after the grueling 2017 campaigns? Whatever the case, Rege could be a man with a mission which remains a guarded secret, at least for now.
