According to Akach, boycotting sugar from the Kibos Sugar factory will go a long way in putting pressure on the factories’ management to stop polluting River Kibos which pours its water into Lake Victoria.

“By the powers given to us by the constitution that we the people hold the power to this country, we want to invoke what we call people power in order to stop pollution of River Kibos,” he stated.

The activist alleged that relevant authorities charged with safeguarding environment have failed to discharge their mandate to stop ‘the rot’ going on in River Kibos.

“The people who are supposed to take charge and control environmental pollution have failed to discharge their mandate,” he insisted.

Speaking when he visited Kisumu County last week, Environment Cabinet Secretary (CS) Keriako Tobiko assured residents that necessary measures will be taken against the factory if it is established that it has been discharging waste in the river.

He categorically stated that no one will be spared in a bid to have a pollution-free environment.
