On Jun 7, 2011, the county boss left tongues wagging after he marched along the streets of Nairobi carrying unga on his head. 

The fiery politician was protesting against the high cost of living alongside other residents. 

In a video that was shared widely all over social media, Sonko is seen walking with the pack of flour alongside women and men.

At the time, Sonko said that he could not sit back and watch his people suffer at the expense of poor governance. 

He vowed to protest for prices to be lowered and argued that the hard economic times were making life unbearable for the common man. 

The act won the hearts of many Kenyans whose staple food is ugali. Sonko has remained very vocal on matters of national interest after he joined politics. 

His acts of kindness, which include the provision of free services through the Sonko rescue team, have made him more popular among youths and women as well as adults. He considers himself a man of the people. 

He has been spotted interacting with residents at different levels even after being elected governor.
