In the viral video, two men on bikes approached a woman from behind and tried to snatch her phone but failed, they then threatened the woman until she had no otherwise but to hand over her phone to them before they sped off.

This is not the first time such cases are being reported in Mombasa. Back in early 2019, we reported how thugs on a motorbike snatched a laptop and text books from a university student who was heading home after he had attended the evening classes.

"They have just greeted me here, I never suspected them, I could not even see their bike number because their bike's lights were completely switched off," revealed a victim only identified as Kevin.

Eye witnesses who were at the crime scene when Kevin was robbed said he had spotted the thugs at Kibokoni.

"They are from Kibokoni, I always see them (Hawa jamaa ni wa Kibokoni, wamenipita nikiwa hapo posta, huwa nawaona na hii piki piki isiyo na taa,'' said the eye witness.

Kibokoni is a residential area within Old Town situated at the south-east side of Mombasa Island. It basically just metres always from the CBD.

It is inhabited by a mix of locals, mostly the Mijikendas, Arabs, Asians, thee Portuguese as well as British settlers.
