The Somali community in Kenya has produced some of the top politicians in the country.
The community that is mostly found in Northern Kenya like Garissa, Wajir, Mandera and Isiolo boasts of having some of the top political minds in the country.
Some of the Somali politicians are allies and close confidants of top figures in government.
There are even claims that these politicians could one time rise to the country’s top leadership.
Here are Somali politicians who have a chance of climbing to the country's top seat.
1. Aden Duale
He is the Garissa Township MP serving his second term in office.
Duale is a close ally and confidant of Deputy President William Ruto.
The leader of Majority in the National Assembly is considered as DP Ruto’s political engine ahead of the 2022 polls.
The Garissa MP’s political star seems to be rising and is among Somali politicians who could make it to the top the seat in the country’s leadership if given chance.
A section of Somali politicians and residents have been challenging Duale to contest for the presidency in 2022.
2. Ali Roba
He is the Mandera County governor serving his second term in office.
The calm politician has influence in the North Eastern region and is a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Roba worked hard and helped Jubilee to clinch North Eastern votes in the 2017 polls.
The governor is serving his last term in office and has hinted on going for the top seat in the 2022 polls.
Roba is certainly among Somali politicians who could contest and win the presidency.
3. Junet Mohamed
He is the Suna East MP serving his second term in office.
Mohamed is a close ally and confidant of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The youthful politician according to political pundits could be among Raila’s successors when he retires from politics.
Junet, a calm and composed politician equally could easily make it to the top seat in future, according to political pundit, Peter Ngure.
4. Yusuf Haji
He is the Garissa senator serving the second term in office.
He is among the country’s veteran politicians having served in various top government positions.
Senator Haji could easily win the top seat if he declares interest owing to his political experience
5. Farah Maalim
He is the former Lagdera MP and among veteran Somali politicians in the country.
The Wiper Party deputy party leader could make it to the top seat if he contests in future elections.
Political pundits observe that North Eastern is among key regions that will decide on who succeeds President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
