Kenya's largest solar power plant in Garissa is set for official launching on Tuesday.
According to a local business publication, the power plant is set to be commissioned by President Kenyatta.
"The 54.6 megawatt (MW) plant, the largest in East and Central Africa and located 15 kilometres from Garissa Town, is expected to be commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta, further cutting reliance on expensive thermal power," the business news site published on its website.
Thelaunch of the solar plant is now expected to cut down electricity costs since it will retail at a cost of about Sh 8 per kilowatt hour as opposed to thermal power that goes for as high as Sh20.
The 54.6 megawatt (MW) Garissa solar plant will now be the largest ever in Central and East Africa.
It is located approximately fifteen kilometers from Garissa Town.
The project is part of President Kenyatta's top agenda of providing safe and affordable electricity to all rural households.
