The County Government of Baringo is on the spot after reportedly acquiring a chopping board worth Sh20,000.
According to the Baringo County Assembly Public Accounts and Investment Committee, the transaction was also not conducted in line with the required criteria.
The tender that was awarded by the past county assembly (2013-2017) was apparently paid on delivery and receipts issued on the spot.
This is in contravention to the public procurement rules which dictate that such be paid through the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS).
“How can a piece of wood which is not more than Ksh.2,000 sell at Ksh.20,000? This is pure wastage of public resources and those responsible for the purchase should be surcharged the amount in excess of the market price at the time,” nominated MCA Saphina Chelangat said.
Emerging details indicate that the county as well used Sh17 million to renovate and paint a restaurant used by the MCAs, an exaggerated amount as the initial figure read Sh2 million.
The assembly also acquired a washing machine which remains unutilised.
