An unidentified student died on spot on Sunday morning near ODM offices, Nyamira branch after he was knocked down by a speeding CID vehicle attached to Nyamira.
Witnesses said the driver of the vehicle was speeding towards Nyamira and failed to check on the victim after the accident.
Douglas Ratemo, Nyamira Matatu Association chair said the student was crossing the road when he met his untimely death. At the scene, the skull was completely dismantled, indicating the fatality of the accident.
"The driver was speeding towards Nyamira and could not control when he came face to face with the child. He was completely smashed," he said.
For sometime, locals protested over the conduct of the driver, who fled the scene before making a comeback with a group of police men to pick the body.
Area CID boss Millicent Ochuka confirmed the accident but asked residents to give the police time to do investigations with respect to the accident.
"It's unfortunate that we have lost a kid in this accident. The officer reported the matter. Let's give officers time to investigate and come with a detailed report," she said.
Hundreds of people gathered by roadside demanding immediate action with a number of them agitating for immediate arrest of the driver on duty.
