A secondary school student was on Monday arraigned in court over allegations of killing a primary school pupil during a fight over a boyfriend.
19-year-old Alexia Oketch reportedly stabbed and killed 14-year-old Angela Siteti over a bodaboda rider in Shinyalu, Kakamega County on June 22.
Kakamega Magistrate Dolphina Alego heard that Siteti allegedly stabbed the deceased on the upper side of the neck, after accusing her of snatching her boyfriend.
Police Constable Athman Ali told the court that the accused then fled to a relative's house in Ikolomani, where she was arrested by police officers and detained.
The court heard that the deceased was on her way to the posho mill when she met her death.
The officer further noted that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
"Investigations are yet to be completed. We are yet to record witness statements as well as subject the suspect to age assessment tests and mental examination,” said Ali as quoted by the Standard.
Constable Ali said that the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood when the police from the nearby Shinyalu Police Station visited the crime scene.
The suspect, who did not take a plea, will be held for 10 more days after the magistrate granted the prosecution's request for more time to conclude the investigations.
Irate neighbours set the house belonging to the suspect's father on fire.
