Over 10 Nyamira County employees living at rental houses in Magombo were forced to spend night in the cold after their houses were locked over rent.
The landlords in the area led by Boniface Onchego claimed that the employees have not been paying rent for the last 8 months.
“We can’t continue keeping them in our houses yet they earn salaries. Let the them find somewhere else to live but, not in the houses we sweat to build,” said Onchego.
Onchego claimed the county employees have been telling lies that they have not been receiving salaries from the county government.
“No one is interested to listen to lies and tricks from the county employees that they have not been receiving monthly salaries.
"If they won’t clear the rent arrears no one is going to open the houses for them,” he noted.
However, the workers led by Douglas Mong'are and Stanley Gekara said the landlords didn’t serve them with notice.
“Yes, most of us owe them since we have not been paid salaries. They should consider opening the houses for us as we try other means to clear the rent arrears,” Mong'are.
