It was suspected that the culprits intended to steal the former Makueni senator's casket with an aim of selling it.

The casket was believed to cost Sh500,000.

However, their attempts hit a dead end after the deceased's employees and neighbors raised alarm.

Police moved with speed by heightening security after they were notified about the incident.

The incident was confirmed by Mbooni East police boss James Baraza.

“We received information that some people were spotted at his home planning on raiding the late senator's grave in Woyani,  we moved with speed to tackle the matter,” Baraza said.

He, however, said no one was found at the scene prompting him to deploy officers for any eventuality.

The incident left residents in shock.

The late Mutula Kilonzo died on April 27, 2013 under mysterious circumstances.
