Deputy President William Ruto insists that he will graciously retire to his Sugoi home should he lose 2022 polls, adding that the narrative of violence is a misconception.

Addressing a group of religious leaders from North Rift on Friday, Ruto said political competitions should not be treated as a matter of 'life and death', adding that the nation will remain intact.

"Political competitions should not be treated as matter of life and death. There is life outside politics. We should all be preaching peace and unity. If I can't win, I have a lot that I can do elsewhere," he said.

Dr Ruto's statement comes barely a week after President Uhuru Kenyatta's chief ally David Murathe, openly dismissed his presidency, vowing to block him using all avenues including the Supreme Court.

During the meeting, Ruto lauded the Church, saying it's contributions towards fostering peace and unity within the country remains significant and valuable.

"It's the church that fosters peace and unity. With it, we should remain united all the time and seek God's grace. This is what we are committed to do and nobody will ever fuel violence," he stated.

For the past three weeks, the DP has been moving between his Karen home and Sugoi, and was conspicuously absent in Mombasa on Monday where the president launched Sh1 billion Mama Ngina Drive Regeneration.

At the Coast, the president, whose relationship with Ruto seems to be deteriorating, was joined by his new partner in service Raila Odinga and several ODM leaders.
