Leaders across the country have continued to celebrate a Kenyan teacher who won the Global teacher award.
Peter Mokaya Tabich of Keriko Secondary school in Pwani village Njoro Sub County after he emerged the best teacher globally.
Mokaya who invented a piece of measuring equipment named ESSAMETER was declared the winner at Dubai in the United Arabs Emirates.
While addressing the press, the humble Teacher form Njoro Nakuru said he did not expect the scientific innovation he made to earn him such victory and recognition in the world.
“I did not expect the scientific innovation could earn me such victory and recognition in the world,” he said.
Celebrations started over the weekend in the evening at Keriko Secondary School grounds - a mixed day school - where parents and students expressed their joy uncontrollably.
Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui has congratulated Mokaya saying that he worked well despite serving in a rural school full of challenges.
“I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Brother Mokaya for the victory. He worked out well despite serving in rural school full of challenges,” said Governor Lee.
His victory has also been lauded by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Uhuru noted that the victory will earn the school, the county and the country big respect in the globe for beating all odds.
Mokaya, a staunch Catholic, has been using his 80% salary to cater for the needy students in the school for fees and had promised the students and the parents that if he happens to win the Sh102 million ($1 million) he will support the community.
The students who have been presenting the project at the science congress are set to present it in May this year at the United States of America.
