A section of elected Jubilee leaders wants opposition chief Raila Odinga to officially join President Uhuru Kenyatta’s party.
Speaking on Saturday as quoted on Capital FM, the leaders who had accompanied Deputy President William Ruto to Nyeri, they said Raila should join the party officially and compete with Ruto for the party’s ticket in the 2022 presidential race.
In verbal jabs, obviously directed at the ODM leader, MPs Anthony Kiai (Mukurweini), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Rahab Mukami (Woman Rep, Nyeri), Michael Muchira (Oljororok), Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Mugambi Gichuki (Othaya), James Gichuhi (Tetu) and George Murugara (Tharaka), said Raila is secretly begging for Uhuru’s endorsement and should instead just join the party.
MP Gachua, however, told Raila to be ready for the competition of the Jubilee ticket ‘as they do not dish tickets just like that’.
“You have to work for it. In Jubilee, we are development focused and it’s your track-record and policies that would market you. We are not a party that endorses mediocrity,” said Gachagua.
According to the Standard, DP also hit out at the opposition urging them to stop lectures on how Jubilee should run its activities.
“Sasa hawa jamaa wananiambia mimi na mdosi yangu vile tutaendesha chama. Yaani watuambie vile tutaendesha chama yenye tuliunda wenyewe! (These people are telling me and my boss on how to run our party, our party that we formed when they were not there,” Ruto said.
