According to neighbours, 32-year-old Bernard Maritim and his wife were involved in an argument before he allegedly slit the wife's throat with a knife.

The incident was confirmed by area chief Nicholas Kering.

"On Saturday, Maritim visited his in-laws in the company of his wife and child and they had a good time before returning home. That is why we have all received news of their deaths with shock," Kering told the Standard.

According to neighbours, the murder came after a day of quarrels between the two.

Beatrice Kimutai, a neighbour, said that they found the woman lying in a pool of blood and the man dangling from a rope when they entered the house.

"The two quarreled the entire day. Their fight continued into the night. We later heard his wife calling for help. We rushed to the home to find out what was happening only to find Sharon's body lying in a pool of blood," she said.

The police camped in the area on Monday led by area OCPD Hesbon Kadenge. They found a knife believed to have been used to commit the murder.

The bodies were moved to Molo sub-county hospital.
