Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji is the talk on social media after a video showing him firing his pistol in the air at a function surfaced online.
The video went viral leaving many Kenyans online puzzled why Senator Yusuf, who is the father of the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji, fired his pistol in the air.
Yusuf was one of the guests during a wedding ceremony and when he was invited to address the guests, he fired his pistol four times in the air.
Some of the guests at the event seemed shocked while others are heard cheering.
Following the video that was doing rounds online, a section of Kenyans called on DPP Haji to investigate and take action against his father.
Others, however, were quick to explain that the shooting in the air is part of Islam wedding ceremony.
The practice is common in the Arab culture and guns are considered a representation of social status that shows might, honour and power.
Shooting in the air during the ceremony is meant to indicate that one tribe has blessed the union and expect their member to be treated well while the other tribe is supposed to fire shots in the air to show they accept the union and expect the same treatment.
