Controversial blogger Robert Alai was arrested on Tuesday for posting photos of police officers killed in Wajir on Saturday in a terror attack.
This comes just a day after National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) alongside the National Police Service (NPS) condemned him for sharing on social media photos of the terror attack victims in Wajir.
On Tuesday morning, he was arrested by the detectives from Director of Criminal Investigations and taken to their head office.
National Cohesion and Integration Commission through the secretary Hassan Mohamed had warned that sharing photos of terror attack victims is an act of supporting terrorism in the country.
They further added that this will hurt the families of the deceased thus no one should share them.
“Whereas Alai has the freedom of expression, such publication can be interpreted as propaganda for war which is not protected under the Constitution of Kenya,” read the statement as quoted by the Standard.
After his arrest, Kenyans said it was improper to arrest him because they had seen the photos even before Alai shared them.
Others did not sympathise with the controversial blogger arguing that he was ignorant of the law.
On Monday, National Police Spokesperson Charles Owino said anyone sharing such images will be deemed to be an Al-Shabaab sympathiser.
