Courtesy of this, he said, the DP has managed to penetrate into unimaginable places, including Luo Nyanza region which is considered an opposition bedrock.

He said that Ruto has mastered the art of impressing the region whenever he visits, despite being a leading critic of the region's political kingpin and opposition chief Raila Odinga.

Weda who doubles up as an advocate of the High Court said that Ruto carefully calculates his words and conduct when in the region to avoid upsetting Raila's supporters.

"He is usually very careful when he visits Raila's turf. He was trained by Raila himself and knows what to say and not say when in Luo Nyanza," said the former Sony Sugar chairman.

He was speaking in an interview on KBC English Service's The Big Conversation Wednesday morning programme.

The latest incident, he said, was when the two leaders met at the Uzima University grounds in Kisumu for the coronation of Philip Anyolo as the new head of Kisumu Catholic Archdiocese.

Speaking when he accompanied Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta in Kisumu on December 13, Ruto drove the crowd into cheering when he referred to Raila as Agwambo, his political nickname.

But away from the region, he has remained a critic of the former Premier, a characteristic he has passed down to his allies who never shy away from sending shots Odinga's way.
