Speaking on Tuesday, Sifuna said that the party's main aim will be to win the elections, and doesn't mind teaming up with others to realize the goal.

However, he ruled the party leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta's 2018 truce out of it, saying that their union has no political dimension and is solely based on realizing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

"As a political party, we exist to compete for, and win power and this will not change in any proposed constitutional dispensation,” he told the Nation.

The party Chair John Mbadi hinted at a reunion of the parties that made up National Super Alliance in the run up to the 2017 polls, or even s bigger and better union of parties.

He predicted a situation where ODM could once again team up with the Amani National Congress (ANC) Ford Kenya and Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) parties.

“The party may have the same arrangement or even a better one," he said.

On his side, Party Director of Political Affairs Opiyo Wandayi said that ODM will also be using the referendum push to revamp itself by reuniting its supporters through the constitutional changes push.

He said that the party is keen on a unity drive aimed at "rallying our people behind the handshake and to contribute to the realisation of its objectives".

Under its leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, ODM has ybroen his weight behind the push to among others, expand the executive and reestablish the parliamentary governance system.
