Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has been the latest leader to weigh-in on the heating politicking among Mt Kenya politicians, urging them to fold their camps and unite.

This comes at a time when the leaders, under their rival Kieleweke and Tangatanga factions, have been engaging each other in verbal fights, ahead of the 2022 general polls.

However, Kiunjuri now says that there is need for a reunion and shelving of politics, warning that a continuation of the current situation will cost the entire community dearly.

He said the job of deciding the way forward should be left to President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has been the region's political kingpin for the last couple of years.

“We only have one leader in Mt Kenya and that is President Kenyatta. The rest of us are there to provide support. If we do not unite, we will lose,” he was quoted by the Nation.

Kiunjuri, who was speaking in Mukurwe-ini, Nyeri county on Saturday, noted that the factions risk dividing the community, adding that locals should shun politics and concentrate on better issues.

"The Kikuyu community needs to remember that leaders are meant to bring their tribesmen together. They are the pillars that hold the house together. If they continue fighting, the community will be scattered,” he added.
