There is already talk of who are the potential successors of Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago who is serving his second and last term.
Names like billionaire businessman Zedekiah Bundotich Buzeki, Kenyan Ambassador to Pakistan Prof. Julius Bitok, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and his Kesses counterpart Dr Swarup Mishra have been fronted but surprisingly there is one name that has been conspicuously missing - Daniel Chemno.
Chemno has been the deputy of Mandago since 2013 when they were first elected into the inaugural devolved units and it comes as a surprise that he does not feature anywhere in the list of the potential successors of his boss.
Maybe it’s because he has not shown an interest of being promoted to take over once the boss retires, but then what if Mandago says he is the man he wants to take over? Will he get the same support from the very same voters? Will he give frontruners a run for their money? Does he have what it takes to run the county?
Answers to those questions may prove critical, but then it all depends on what point of view you’re looking at it.
From where I seat, Chemno has the ability to be the governor by the virtue of having served as Mandago’s deputy for 10 years, by 2020.
He has gained experience on how county matters are run and should give the top seat in the county a try, with or without the endorsement of his boss, governor Mandago.
