Kalonzo said he is ready to work with the president during the burial of his father at Tseikuru in Kitui County last Friday,

The former Vice President said he will not allow anyone to get between the president and himself.

A section of Kamba politicians among them Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has raised fears over Kalonzo’s statement.

Kibwana argues that Kalonzo’s statement was not in order and that it will be demeaning if he is turned to "mtu wa mkono."

However, according to political analyst Peter Ngure, Kalonzo's motive to work with President Kenyatta is calculated at the 2022 presidential election.

The analyst observes that Kalonzo wants to establish good working relationship with the president as basis for his 2022 presidential bid.

The analyst notes that the Wiper leader could be seeking Uhuru’s endorsement in 2022.

“Kalonzo’s statement was not in vain and is purely calculated at the 2022 presidential succession politics,” Ngure said.

Ngure spoke to this writer in Nairobi on Monday.

He said Kalonzo’s chances of ascending to power in 2022 will increase if he works with President Kenyatta in the remaining period.

“Kalonzo’s popularity and bargaining power will increase if he moves closer to the president and government,” he added.

Kalonzo has in the recent days declared support for President Kenyatta in the war against the graft and tribalism.
