Whereas ODM leader Raila Odinga has been having an age over other in the region since 2007, his popularity has however diminished over the last few months with his erstwhile foot soldiers seemingly shifting their political allegiance to Deputy President William Ruto.

With Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa gone, Raila has been left with a mountain to climb in a bid to win back the region. So, what next for him?

Is former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar his political saviour in the region?  Yes. He is. Forget about his humiliating defeat in 2017 in the Mombasa gubernatorial race- the former Wiper Party Secretary General remains an influential political figure in the region and may prove to be an asset to the former Prime Minister.

So far, only Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Likoni MP Mishi Mboko and Mombasa Women Representative remain as the only leader in the Coast region who are very loyal to Raila.

As such, the addition of Omar who may be keen to mount a comeback in 2022 will no doubt improve Raila's fortunes in the region.
