A woman who denied her children the right to education and health care on basis that they are satanic has been charged at Milimani law court in Nairobi for violation of children’s rights.
Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot on Tuesday morning, Lydia Manyasi Saya, a mother of three, however, denied violating rights to education for two of her children and rights to healthcare for her son.
According to the charge sheet seen by Citizen Digital, she was accused that between the month of April 2018 to January 13, 2019 at Kibra Katwekera in Kibra sub-county, she willfully and negligently denied children aged 8 and 10 years respectively right to education
She was also accused misguiding the children with false information that aimed at making them hate school and those who attend school by terming education "satani" according to their religious doctrine.
Ms. Manyasi was further accused of denying her child access to healthcare. The court was informed that on January 13, 2019 she denied her 1-year-old son the right to health and medical care by not taking him to hospital subjecting him to pain and risk of losing life.
The magistrate directed that the matter be handled by a probation officer for further inquiry.
"The probation officer will determine the cause of the alleged offense before the court can decide on whether to release her on bail or bond" ordered the magistrate.
The probation officer is expected to present the report in court on January 29, until then Mrs. Manyasi will remain in police cells.
