A 37-year-old woman has committed suicide in Katulani, Kitui County.
The deceased allegedly ended her own life after she failed to raise enough school fees for her daughter who is supposed to join Form One in the ongoing admissions.
The incident was confirmed by Katulani Sub-county Administration Police commandant Aliphonce Anaswa.
Anaswa said the deceased's body was discovered by her neighbors hanging from a tree on Wednesday.
He said members of the public alerted the police on the woman's body after they discovered it.
Anaswa said the woman might have decided to end her life for failing to raise the fees.
"The daughter had earlier reportedly threatened to kill herself if her mother would not raise all the funds required for her Form One admission. Her mother then committed suicide after failing to raise the enormous amount," Anaswa said.
He addressed the press in his office on Wednesday.
The student scored 396 marks in Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.
She has secured an admission letter from Machakos Girls.
The deceased's body was removed to Kitui Level 4 Hospital's mortuary.
