The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud.
On Friday, the apex court dismissed a ruling by the Appellate Court that had earlier nullified Abdi's election and ordered for a fresh gubernatorial poll.
In a judgement read by Chief Justice David Maraga, the court ruled that Abdi was validly elected in the August 8, 2017, general election.
Former Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi petitioned the election of Mohamed Abdi.
He claimed that the authenticity of Abdi's academic papers could not be verified.
The petitioner claimed that Abdi did not have academic qualifications to contest the gubernatorial election.
In 2018, the High Court and Court of Appeal nullified the election of Governor Abdi on grounds it was not free and fair forcing him to appeal in the Supreme Court.
