Olympic High School was on Tuesday ordered by a Nairobi court to allow a rastafarian student back to class pending the judgment of the case slated for May 3, 2019.
Delivering the ruling on Tuesday, the court further ordered the 15-year-old student to keep her hair neat and covered by a turban.
The father of the minor moved to court on January 14, 2019 to sue the school after chasing her daughter out of school and ordering her to only return after cutting her hair.
Through his lawyer Shadrack Wambui, the father argued that all their family members are Rastafarians and that they are forbidden by the Bible from cutting their hair.
He further argued that her daughter attended Primary school education at Shadrack Kimalel primary school, Ngumo and completed without any interference or objection on her hairstyle adding that he expected the same from Olympic Secondary.
The complaint also accused the school's deputy principal and Board of Governors of refusing to listen to him even after visiting the school several times to seek an audience.
“I have sought audience with the deputy headteacher, headmaster and education officer based in Kibra and explained that the dreadlocks are as a result of cultural and religious beliefs and no one has listened to us,” said the father in his affidavit.
The student was sent home by Olympic Secondary school deputy principal on January 10, 2019 after reporting for her form one studies.
