Nyamira County Governor John Nyagarama has urged Nyamira residents not to subdivide their land.

Addressing members of the press at Uhuru Gardens in Nyamira town Nyagarama, said in recent years the County has been experiencing serious land divisions a situation that has made farmers divert from large scale farming to small scale farming a move that has affected production of agricultural products.

" We are experiencing serious maize shortage in the County something that has been caused by severe land divisions and it is time for our people maybe in the future to rethink on this."

He further cautioned residents on agricultural activities they engage in that has led to scarcity of water in the region.

"There is this tendency of people planting gum trees on river banks and it is well known that the same trees aren't friendly to our water catchment areas please it is time that you remove such trees from our river banks."

Nyagarama further said soon the County government will enact a policy which will coarse people in the region to remove blue gums from river banks.

"The ministry of Environment is in the process of enacting a policy which will coarse those who have planted trees near river banks to remove them from our rivers," he added.
