The Coast region has gradually become politically attractive over the recent years.
The population has increased and that politically translates to numbers worth bargaining for the top seats.
Ruto may have to find a running mate from the coast to attract their support and here are the likely candidates;
1. Salim Mvurya
The Kwale governor won against the odds with a Jubilee ticket in an area that voted for the opposition at the presidential level.
He was promised a reward, to be the council of governors chairperson, a pledge whose fulfilment hit a snag.
In Kenya, sometimes setbacks like this can work for you and make you a bigger fish politically.
His development record made it possible for him to be reelected for a second term.
His political prowess, leadership skills and Jubilee loyalty puts him in a good position to be DP Ruto's running mate.
2. Suleiman Shahbal
The Kenya Trade Network Agency chairman unsuccessfully contested for Mombasa governor's position in a Jubilee ticket.
He was the point man in the previous Jubilee campaign in the larger coastal region and this puts him in a better position to be DP Ruto's running mate.
He recently buried the hatche with Governor Joho and proved that he is a leader who prioritizes development over personal glory.
He has previously served in different commercial positions indicating he can manage the country's finances to achieve economic growth.
3. Najib Balala
Mr Balala's political profile rose during the ODM Pentagon formation in 2007 elections.
He has not been in a political position since 2013.
However, his loyalty to Jubilee has seen him become the Tourism cabinet secretary.
He was also a key person in Jubilee campaigns in both 2013 and 2017 in the larger coast.
He has improved the tourism industry since he took over and that proves his leadership ability.
4. Aisha Jumwa.
The Malindi Member of Parliament has of recent days changed tunes to be a strong DP Ruto supporter.
Since the handshake, Aisha Jumwa has made it clear that she will support DP Ruto in the 2022 elections.
The vocal legislator will bring the gender balance aspect to Ruto's camp.
She is also among the best performing MPs.
5. Amason Kingi
The Kilifi governor proved he is a strong political force in his area after virtually all contested political seats in 2017 elections in Malindi went to the opposition.
His development record made Kilifi residents vote for him in larger numbers for a second term.
Recently he has been close to Ruto, a move that can help him become his running mate.
