Milele FM presenter and head of Radio Alex Mwakideu has officially announced that he is joining politics.
In an exclusive interview with Hivisasa on Tuesday, the presenter said he was not just going for the Wundanyi parliamentary seat but was confident he will be elected as the MP.
"Hii si nia tu, mimi nitakuwa mbunge wa Wundanyi 2022 (It is not just an intent to contest, I will be the Wundanyi Member of Parliament in 2022), confirmed Mwakideo.
He had earlier shared a post to Facebook, attracting mixed reactions from his fans, a base he has grown over the last 10 years as a radio presenter.
Last year, Mwakideu quit Standard Group's Radio Maisha alongside comedian Jalang'o to join Milele FM.
He was later promoted to be the station's programs head while still running the breakfast show.
"Tangu nizaliwe, sijawahi kuona kiongozi yeyote ambaye amefanya jambo lolote la maana Wundanyi. Kila mara huwa naona nyumbani kuna mambo mengi hayajafanywa. 2022, nitakuwa mbunge wa Wundanyi ili niwe kiongozi wa kubadili hali ya eneo bunge letu,
(I have never seen any leaders doing some meaningful work in Wundanyi. I have always seen a lot that has not been attended to and in 2022 I will be the leader to make a difference in my constituency) stated Mwakideu.
Wundani is in Taita Taveta County and the seat is currently held by Danson Mwashako.
Mwashako was elected on a Wiper party ticket as a first-time MP.
