For several minutes, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i lighted mourners at Maxwell SDA Church in Nairobi on Tuesday when addressing the congregation.
Leaders fro across the political divide had gathered for a fund drive to Governor John Nyagarama, meant to offset mortuary bills for his deceased son, Ndemo Nyagarama.
But when giving his speech, Matiang'i noted that the occasion had given him an opportunity to sit along with James Orengo 'closest and longest time' in his life.
"This is the closest and the longest I have ever sat next to Senator James Orengo," he said amidst laughter from participants.
Matiang'i represented President Uhuru Kenyatta, who had contributed a whooping Sh2 million towards the burial expenses.
When speaking, Orengo, who was also representing Raila Odinga, asked leaders to back the unity deal between the latter and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"We should live as brothers because Kenya is important than any of us. I am happy to meet with those whom at one point were political opponents," he said.
Throughout the electioneering period, Orengo was a chief critic of Matiang'i and at one point he threatened to sue him for extra judicial killings.
