Mr Duale joined thousands of other Muslim faithful who gathered at General Muhamud grounds, Garissa for the celebrations.

The Muslim faithful in Garissa joined others across the country who defied the Chief Kadhi’s advice to mark the celebrations on Wednesday.

Mr Duale asked Muslims across the country to uphold peace and unity and shun those who promote violence against innocent civilians in the name of religion.

“I send my greetings to my Muslim brothers and sisters in commemoration of the sacrifices of Abraham and his family. Urged Islamic scholars, Imam’s, Namlef, Supkem and Majlis Ulama to convene a meeting to discuss the misconduct and culture of dividing Muslims,” posted Mr Duale on facebook.

Edd is an Arabic word that means feast or festival, and Adha means sacrifice.

After the special prayers, sacrifices are made and the slaughtered animals are shared among the family, friends and the needy in the community.
