Speaking on Wednesday night, the university don opined that the team is working on Deputy President William Ruto's orders, most likely on a pay.

However, he advised that it would be useless to invest in the MPs, especially in a region with a history of kicking out most of its lawmakers during elections.

He pointed out that buying them over is a wrong move to the person behind their bought loyalty, as he will not be guaranteed of returns because the team is also most likely preparing for an ouster and will, therefore, not bring in anything.

“Investing in MPs in Mt Kenya region where 95 to 98 per cent of them do not get re-elected or investing so much thinking that they will help, is basically splitting hairs," he said as quoted by the Standard.

Kagwanja who is the African Policy Institute boss made the remarks during an interview on KTN's Point Blank show.

He described the Mt Kenya 'TangaTanga' MPs as 'political realists who are only after money', and whose only hope is that they manage to remain relevant.

He noted that they have seen Ruto's money, hence their support for him.

“The 'Tanga Tanga' MPs go where they can get money to remain relevant every weekend, every month and every year up to 2022 in the hope of re-election. That’s a short vision,” he added.

The MPs have been in the front line in endorsing Ruto's 2022 presidential ambitions.
