A Nyeri woman has become an instant sensation in her village after fighting a robber who attacked her at night.
The incident occurred at Ngangarithi Estate on Wednesday night.
Police said two robbers armed with crude weapons broke into the woman’s retail shop at 3am and stole goods.
Neighbours raised alarm and a cat and mouse chase for the burglars started.
“The husband and neighbours chased after one of the burglars, leaving behind the woman at the kiosk. The second thug is alleged to have been hiding near the shop and came back and attempted to rape the woman,” the Nation reported.
However, the woman acted bravely and armed herself with a knife and stabbed him in the neck.
He ran out screaming before he collapsed a few metres away and died.
Confirming the incident, Nyeri Central Deputy Sub-County Police Commander Bernard Amugune said they will release details about the incident later.
The police boss said the body of the deceased was taken to the Nyeri County Referral Hospital mortuary.
John Njogu, a resident, described the woman as the ‘hero of the day’.
“The woman has shown us what quick thinking can do to our lives. Instead of just resigning herself to the attack, she responded bravely and brutally. She is now our village hero,” Njogu said.
