Police Inspector from Nairobi's Kangemi area has donated Sh56,000 to a man who was convicted of attempting to smuggle his newborn baby from Kenyatta National Hospital.
Inspector Emmanuel Tammoh, who was born and raised in Narok said he had moved ro KNH to clear the bill accrued following the admission of Boniface Murage's wife Jane only to find out that it had been paid.
“After that, I proceeded to Milimani Law Courts where I was to meet Boniface Murage and donate the money to him,” said Tammoh as reported by the Standard.
“I have come to help this man not because I am a police officer but because I am a Kenyan full of passion to help people,” said Tammoh.
Boniface was issued a 3-month none custodial sentence by a Nairobi court on Tuesday before being released to take care of his young family.
On Monday, Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino had promised to clear the bill but Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko came to Murage's rescue first.
Tammoh told Boniface to help his family with the money and warned him not to engage in any other criminal offence.
“It is not that we are supporting what he did, but maybe he committed the offence out of poverty,” said Tammoh.
He said that the Sh56,000 were part of his savings from his salary as a police officer.
