Raila while dismissing media claims that he has abandoned the Wiper leader said that they are in touch.

“We are talking with Kalonzo in regards to many issues among them the country’s unity, security, and state of corruption, other matters in regards to 2022 will fall in place,” he told supporters at the Kitui Bus stage on Tuesday.

Raila signed a deal with Kalonzo in 2017 where he (Raila) was to contest for the presidential election and later support Kalonzo in 2022.

The deal signed under the National Super Alliance (NASA) was that Kalonzo will automatically be the alliance presidential flag bearer in 2022.

Raila was however defeated in the 2017 presidential election and now there are claims that Raila will not honor the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kalonzo.

Politicians allied to the former Prime Minister have been quoted saying that Raila will be on the ballot in 2022.

On Monday, ODM chairman John Mbadi confirmed that Raila will contest for the presidency in 2022.

Claims that Raila will be on the ballot have angered Kalonzo’s allies who have been asking him to cut ties with the former Prime Minister.

A section of Kamba politicians are piling pressure on Kalonzo to abandon Raila and seek partnership with other leaders who will support his presidential bid.

Kalonzo is among top politicians who are eyeing the presidential seat in the much anticipated 2022 general election.
