Feet and ankle swelling can be painful or painless though it is quite uncomfortable and makes one face challenges in walking. This swelling can result from different reasons such as pregnancy, standing for long, unfitting shoes or lifestyle factors.

The swelling occurs when fluid called edema accumulates on the leg tissues increasing their size and weight.

This swelling can be sorted at home through these ways,

1. Raise the feet above your heart

Put your feet on cushions or pillows when you sleep such that the legs are above the heart, this slowly reduces the swelling. Pregnant women are advised not to stand for long and on resting should elevate their legs.

2. Feet massage

Massaging the swollen feet helps in blood circulation and also helps the muscles to relax. Application of firm pressure to the legs is helpful to reduce swelling.

3. Do some exercise

Do not stand or sit at the same place for a long time, take a walk from one place to the other. This helps in relieving any available pain, relax the feet muscles and lessen the swelling.
