Recently the Central Organization Trade Union(COTU) secretary general Francis Atwoli mentioned that elections in Kenya ends at the county level and the presidency is decided in a board room.

This looks to be true as alliances in Kenya are normally decided in a board room meetings which after a line up is agreed at a 'national delegates' meeting is held to endorse the lineup, simply for public relations purposes.

Here is a likely list of these boardroom members in Kenya.

1.Mama Ngina Kenyatta

The first Kenyan first lady post-colonial period has a strong say in the Kenyan politics several decades after her husband, the first president of the Republic of Kenya, passed.

His political prowess was recently seen when she made Baringo senator Gideon Moi forgo his ambition to vie for the presidency in 2017 election or join forces with opposition NASA alliance.

She simply visited his father, the retired president Daniel Moi, and after the meeting senator Gideon Moi come out to say he won't vie for the top seat but rather support president Kenyatta in his second term.

The move ensured consolidate vote in Rift Valley region for Jubilee which proved crucial for Jubilee win.

Its also believed she was the mind behind the famous handshake.

2.Retired President Daniel Moi

Moi has not been active in politics since 2002 but his political influence has not changed that much.

This has been seen by how those who want to vie for the presidency are literally scrambling to meet him for blessings and endorsement.

Pundits argue that his reluctance to have a meeting with DP Ruto despite the later making arrangement means that he is not favoured by the retired president.

3. Prominent business persons

These group of people normally have vested interests in the economy.

They finance the campaign process expecting rewards and favours once you are in the office of the president.

They expect to be either appointed to various parastatals, ministries or at least have a say in selecting who is appointed and want tender favours.

Prominent ones include SK Macharia, Jimmy Wanjigi, Muhoho Kenyatta, Chris Kirubi, Manu Chandaria among others.

4. Unions and associations leaders

These are wooed in the boardroom because of their members who are in most cases professionals forming either middle class or first class citizens.

Once you have convinced the two classes, hypothetically the rest will follow suit.

These people are comprised of the likes of Francis Atwoli (COTU), Ouma Olunga (KMPDU), Seth Panyako (KNUN), Akello Misori (Kuppet) just to mention a few.
