Former Uasin Gishu county gubernatorial hopeful Zedekiah Bundotich says that governor Jackson Mandago defeated him in 2017 elections because he was little known by residents.
Speaking at a funeral function in Ziwa, Soy constituency Bundotich also known as Buzeki argued that he has come to realise that he was liked by the residents.
"When I arrive at such a meeting, I always realise that people applause me, because they have realised that this man (him) was good," said Buzeki.
"When I came here to campaign in 2017, people asked themselves, 'who was this man called Buzeki? We don't know him. If we elect him he may show us his back'.But I came committed to working for you," he added.
The vocal politician noted that servant leadership was necessary because citizens want leaders who deliver on promises. He expressed his commitment to serving the people regardless of him holding an elective seat.
Buzeki further insisted that he was ready to support a visionary and development oriented leader, so long as residents benefit and pledged to continue supporting governor Mandago's government.
However, the billionaire businessman said that despite his promise to support the serving leaders, he would also check on their excesses.
"We will ensure elected leaders deliver on the mandate because we want citizens to benefit," said Buzeki who is tipped as a front runner to succeed governor Mandago who will be vacating the office in 2022 after serving two terms.
In the 2017 general elections, Buzeki lost to Mandago twice, first during the Jubilee party primaries and later in the main polls after opting to vie as an independent candidate.
He was recently appointed the chairman of the Chemilil Sugar Company by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
