Dr Matiang'i has in the past year intensified campaigns across Kisii and Nyamira Counties with Governors James Ongwae and John Nyagarama expected to bow out of politics in 2022.

But a sitting MP from Nyamira says Matiang'i scared of ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire and Dagoretti North's Simba Arati, both who are Keen to stamp authority in the community.

"I can assure for the fact that Bosire and Arati have given him hectic moments. It will be difficult for him to stamp authority in Gusii region. If he wants to, then he must sit down with them.

"Both Bosire and Arati, unlike many of us, are financially stable and have a large following. It will be difficult for Matiang'i to unite the entire community. Take that to bank," he said.

While Bosire is rumoured to be interested in Nyamira gubernatorial seat, Arati has expressed his intentions to succeed Governor Ongwae. Matiang'i, who is favoured in both counties, is weighing options.

In an interview with Bosire, he has repeatedly dismissed Matiang'i as someone who can't be trusted, citing Ruaraka land saga as one of the major shortcomings.

"Let him come out and tell us how we lost Sh1.5 billion shillings. He is the worst pretender I have ever seen and his days are numbered," he said.

Later on this month, the three men are expected to flex muscles when president Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga visit the region for two days in the spirit of the handshake.
