This is after the department of ICT acquired 30 smartphones which will be used for verification purposes.

Speaking while handing over the phones to the relevant officers, acting ICT Chief Officer Titus Kimaiyo said that the officers’ work of checking issues of compliance will be eased.

Kimaiyo also said that all non-compliant motorists will be cornered as the officers on the ground have been empowered with the mobile phones which can retain the charge for more than three days.

The phones, according to the IT guru have been installed with UG pay android application and one-month internet data will be given to the officers in the field.

"This will put to an end the tradition of officers having to use their own phones while verifying clients’ vehicles. This was a setback since the government had no control of the private phone usage,” said Kimaiyo.

The governor Jackson Mandago-led administration has been working on improving its revenue collection especially parking fees within Eldoret town.

Already the county has unveiled a platform where parking fee can be paid through the mobile platform, M-Pesa.
